América Móvil distribuirá el iPhone en América Latina

La compañía de Carlos Slim no ha dado detalles sobre si se trata de un contrato de exclusividad.

América Móvil, el mayor operador de telefonía móvil de América Latina ha llegado a un acuerdo con Apple para comercializar el teléfono iPhone en América Latina. La compañía, propiedad del magnate mexicano Carlos Slim, no ha proporcionado ningún detalle de la operación mediante la cual distribuirá el reconocido teléfono en los 16 países donde opera en América Latina. A ese grupo se ha sumado Panamá, donde la compañía de Slim ganó una licitación para operar una concesión de telefonía móvil.

La compañía del magnate Carlos Slim no ha determinado si se trata de un contrato de exclusividad, la manera que hasta el momento Apple ha comercializado su teléfono. Con este acuerdo la compañía de Slim refuerza su liderazgo, América Móvil tiene 159,2 millones de suscriptores de móviles y 3,9 millones de líneas fijas en el continente americano.

Hasta la fecha, en el continente americano, la estadounidense AT&T tiene un contrato de exclusividad para comercializar el móvil de Apple en EEUU, y en México, sólo Telcel, filial de América Móvil en México, lo ofrece a sus clientes. En el resto de países latinoamericanos en cambio, la mayoría de usuarios del aparato lo compran en EEUU, y lo entregan a programadores locales, que logran burlar las barreras de seguridad del móvil para poderlo utilizar en sus respectivos países, práctica desaconsejada por la misma Apple.

El iPhone llegó a principios del pasado mes de noviembre en Francia, Gran Bretaña y Alemania, a través de Orange, la española Telefónica (su filial O2) y Deutsche Telekom, respectivamente. Su aparición a España está prevista para antes del próximo verano y parece bastante probable que Movistar, también de Telefónica, sea la compañía elegida para su venta.
